It Was Only a Matter of Time
This is a reposting from 2009, but in the wake of Ferguson, we need to be reminded that if this is how a black President was and is treated, how do we expect your average black person to be treated?
There are some people who don't believe that they have to account to anyone for their actions. They walk this Earth believing they are superior, and they give themselves permission to do or say whatever they please. Joe Wilson claiming that his emotions during our President's address to Congress the other night got the better of him is correct; but it wasn't about healthcare. It's the fact that a black man is standing in a place he, Wilson, a white man, will never be. A black man is in a position of power, and contrary to what he and the rest of the racists in this country would like us to believe, he is an exceptional person. He may even be a great leader if he doesn't have to pause every time an idiot like Joe Wilson opens his mouth. He acted like a left-back fifth grader, disrupting the class with an outburst instead of listening to what his teacher had to say and maybe learning something. I remember students like that when I was in school. They got nowhere in life.
Joe Wilson and his mob and their anger has gone way beyond conservative ideals; they are livid about blacks being in power on a subcellular level. Because whites have been in the racial majority practically since this country was founded, and because, quite frankly Europeans founded this country on violence and despotism, and stayed in power by enslaving, torturing, and degrading other races, Wilson, as part of the white race has actually come to believe in white superiority.
This should not suddenly be a surprise to everyone, this racist backlash. The Joe Wilsons of the world were out there during the presidential campaign and all through the election. They just kept their mouths shut while they scrambled for a way to tear down a black President without looking like the racists they are. They will succeed if good people don't start saying out loud what all these tea parties and town halls are. Race rallies. Have you looked at those crowds. All white. And the media needs to start reporting on the majority of people who stand behind our President instead of shilling to corporate interests and feeding the monster that is 24/7 news. I don't know about you, but I don't need to know what's going on in the world every waking minute. And I don't need to see some moron who is kissing cousin to that banjo player in Deliverance telling the world that he don't want his kid listenin' to no Obama's socialist agenda" on a time-loop (like he even knows what socialism is. Or even an agenda.)
In the meantime, if you want to call Joe Wilson on his bullshit, here's and e mail address
and telephone numbers.

In the meantime, take a few minutes and read this little piece from a 1953 TIME magazine article. It's about how an arch segregationist governor from South Carolina bullied the government into taking out a civil rights clause from federal legislation. Let's not let this happen to this administration. Let's not have it shut down because of racism. Go here for the article
Oh, and that picture up top. Ku Klux Klan march in Washington D.C., September 13, 1926.
